Sport Achievements: How the Five-Per-Sport System Works

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort does not have a single global achievement list. It has nine small ones, one per competitive sport, five achievements each. They are the game's deterministic reward system: the same feat always pays the same cosmetic.

Finding them

On the home screen:

  1. Highlight a sport.
  2. Press X.
  3. The achievement list for that sport opens, with progress on each entry.

If you are playing with a single left Joy-Con, there is no X button within reach, so press D-pad up instead. That alternative input is easy to miss, and it is the reason some players believe the game has no achievement screen at all.

What they reward

Three categories:

  • Cosmetics themed to the sport, covering clothing and accessories.
  • Player tag options, letting you change the label attached to your profile.
  • Nothing else. No points, no currency, no stat boosts.

The cosmetic focus is deliberate. Achievements are the route to a look that identifies which sports you actually play, and they cannot be bought with Spocco Points at any price.

How the five are structured

Each sport's set follows a similar shape: a participation achievement, two skill achievements, a volume achievement, and one that requires a specific feat. The exact requirements differ per sport, but the pattern is consistent enough that you can predict what a sport will ask of you.

The volume achievements are the slow ones. Everything else can be done in a handful of matches once you know the sport.

Which to chase first

  • Bowling, archery and golf have the most readable achievement conditions: the feats are visible and repeatable.
  • Boxing and volleyball ask for sustained performance rather than a single moment, so they take longer.
  • Tennis and table tennis reward rally control, which means the achievement comes when your fundamentals do.
  • Basketball and thumb wrestling are the quickest sets overall.

If the goal is wardrobe volume, clear the quick sports first. If the goal is a specific cosmetic, work backwards from the reward.

Achievements versus Island Crown

They overlap but are not the same ladder. Island Crown pays points and items for beating named opponents; achievements pay cosmetics for feats, regardless of who you beat. Playing the ladder is a good way to make progress on both at once, because the opponents force the situations the achievements describe.

For the ladder, see the Island Crown guide.

Local multiplayer and achievements

Achievements track on your profile, and local sessions count. A four-player bowling evening moves several achievement bars at once, which makes couch play a legitimate route to unlocks rather than purely a social mode.
